University of Edinburgh

Since 2006 the University of Edinburgh has been running a research project to automate the creation of instruction set extensions, based on the ARC instruction set.  http://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/pasta/

University of Edinburgh has also developed its own implementation of an ARC processor, called 'EnCore'.  http://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/pasta/hw_encore.html

On-going program of test-chip fabrication to prove the ideas from research. Each chip is named after one of the hills in Edinburgh. The first is 'Calton', a 130nm chip (see http://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/pasta/hw_encore-calton.html), which was taped-out to UMC in November last year. This is the first silicon produced by this group, and it works perfectly in the lab.
